JAKARTA, Indonesia – A 31-year-old Indonesian caregiver posted a video on YouTube on September 8, which allegedly shows her rape by her Taiwanese boss. The video has since gone viral.

The woman, who has worked in Taiwan since last December, claims she was raped by her boss in late July. In the five-minute video, a topless, gray-haired man with a bare chest is trying to take off the caretaker's shirt.

"Lau Ban (Boss), I don't want. Stop it," the caregiver is heard saying in the Chinese language. She is heard crying and begging the man to stop. "Boss, take off your hands, keep your hands off me, I said I don't want," she says.

The man then takes off her pants by force and says he wants to take a peek. "No, don't look," the caregiver says. The Taiwanese male is then seen apparently sexually assaulting the woman. The video has been removed from YouTube. According to local police, the woman first reported the alleged assault via a help hotline for foreign workers on September 9.

But when police and local officials went to the employers' house on the same day in response to the call, the caregiver was unable to give a report to police, having fainted in the middle of giving her account.

Suicide attempt

The report was scheduled to be continued on Saturday, September 10 but that morning, the woman was found with cuts on her wrist in an apparent attempt to commit suicide. She was rushed to the hospital.

Doctors have said her condition is stable, adding that there were 6 to 7 cuts on her wrist. The police said they were expected to talk with her later in the day.

She was reportedly taken to a shelter according to local media

According to local authorities, the man accused of raping the Indonesian woman is a 58-year-old married man who lives with his parents. The caregiver was hired to take care of his sick father. His identity is only known as having the last name Hsieh.

A warrant of arrest has been issued against the man, who was gone by the time the police returned on Saturday.  The woman told authorities that she had sent a video as evidence of her being sexually assaulted to her labor agency, but it did not take any action.

The manager of the labor agency, Zhang Zhong Ren, explained that they volunteered to assist the caregiver to report to police in August, but the caregiver told them to "hold on."

"We went to the employer's home on Sept 1, and found the caregiver wore a masker and kept crying," the manager said.

At that time, the caregiver asked us to change the employer but said nothing about sexual assault. The agency claimed that they knew the woman was being sexually assaulted only yesterday.

There are at least 7 million Indonesian overseas workers. 60% of them work as domestic caretakers. According to Taiwan's Ministry of Labor, Indonesians account for 41.6% of all foreign nationals working in Taiwan, and 79.4% of all human health foreign workers, the largest of any country of origin. – Rappler.com
